    PADI Course Director

    PADI Course Directors are instructor trainers who conduct PADI Instructor Development Courses and the other PADI instructor-level training courses.  

    PADI Course Directors hold the highest and most respected professional rating in recreational and technical scuba diving.  They are among the industry’s most influential opinion leaders and role models.  

    Those who join this elite group of professionals pass through a stringent screening process that examines not only their scuba experience and training but their level of business acumen just to get into the competitive and demanding Course Director Training Course (CDTC) held twice a year. (Malaysia in the spring and Dominican Republic in the summer)  

    What You Learn

    During the CDTC you will learn not only how to teach the complete IDC including the eLearning and workshop portions but how to market the programs as well.  

    You also will refine team building as you work with other candidates to build the best programs in the industry.

    What You Can Teach

    You will be able to take your talent of teaching divemasters to the next level of leadership within the PADI System of education. You can teach Assistant Instructors, Open Water Scuba Instructors, Specialty Instructors, create Master Scuba Diver Trainers, and teach your own assistants known as IDC Staff Instructors.

    You will also be able to assist in refreshing instructors who need status updates for various reasons.

    Duration

    Prior to attending the CDTC you will complete online portions much like the IDC candidates.  You will also become an EFR Instructor Trainer (typically 3-4 hour online sessions followed by 3-4 hour hands on application training).  The actual CDTC is 11 days long.

    Prerequisites to Attend a CDTC

    1. Teaching status PADI Master Instructor
    2. For 12 months before the course start date
      1. Have no verified quality assurance complaints
      2. Conducted all PADI certification courses and experience programs using methods consistent with PADI stands and philosophy as outlined in the PADI Instructor Manual and PADI’s Guide to Teaching
      3. Used the complete PADI System of diver education exclusively, including all appropriate PADI educational materials.
      4. Taught PADI Diver courses exclusively.
    3. Staffed two completed IDCs after IDC Staff Instructor certifications or a combination of teaching AI courses
    4. Emergency First Response Instructor Trainer
    5. 250 logged dives
    6. PADI Dive Center or Resort Work experiencE
    7. Met requirements as listed in most current application
    8. Within 12 months of application
      1. Score 83 percent in each of the required Dive Theory Exams (Dive Theory Online if completed within last 12 months will credit towards if scores are 83 percent or higher).
      2. Score 85 percent on the PADI System, Standards and Procedures Exam.
